About the loft
In a good loft, pigeons need air, sun and above all heat. Significant temperature differences disturb the pigeons and are harmful to their health.
The interior construction of a loft must imperatively be made of wood.
The loft must therefore ensure the comfort of the pigeons and be convenient for the fancier in order to optimize the care that should be given to the pigeons.
The best way to build a garden dovecote is to build on stilts. To create good hydrometric conditions, the raised wooden floor allowing air circulation below seems to be one of the best alternatives in order to avoid rising damp through the ground.
Wet ground is the worst disaster for pigeons. The droppings are however during their degradation a source of harmful gases for the well being of the pigeons. Poorly housed pigeons frequently have dry, hard and discolored plumage and diseases take over including trichomoniasis, coccidiosis and worms.
A pigeon in poor condition cannot perform well in competitions.
Three important things, the care, the loft and the quality of the pigeons are a guarantee of success.
